Michael Gilhooly Barred for Refusal to Appear during Investigation

FINRA barred Michael James Gilhooly, formerly of RJJ Pasadena Securities of South Pasadena, California, for refusing to appear for on-the-record testimony during an investigation into whether Gilhooly violated federal securities laws or regulations, or FINRA rules.

AWC #2017053556901

The findings do not specify what laws or rules Gilhooly allegedly violated, but FINRA's report notes that Gilhooly (CRD #2452559) previously, in 2008, agreed to a cease-and-desist order regarding Gilhooly's purchasing and selling securities in customer accounts in states where he was not properly registered. The 2008 consent order pertained to Gilhooly's business activities with the states of Washington and Virginia.

As a result of its investigation, the State of Virginia fined Gilhooly $3,000 and $375 for the cost of the investigation; Washington similarly ordered sanctions to the tune of a $3,000 fine.

In 1999, while associated as a representative with Crowell, Weedon & Co. of Los Angeles, Gilhooly settled a customer complaint that had alleged unsuitable purchases in over-the-counter equity and stocks.

Gilhooly, whose disclosed other business activities includes coaching youth sports at Loyola High School in downtown Los Angeles, is also listed on Loyola's website as the school's Principal Gifts Manager. In 2001, Gilhooly and several other coaches sued the Fontana Unified School District, alleging that a brawl during a 1999 football game resulted in injuries and other damages.

In 2006, Jonathan Evans & Associates brought an arbitration claim on behalf of a former client of RJJ Pasadena and Shapour Javadizadeh. In 2007, the case concluded with an award in favor of the investor totaling in excess of $150,000 including attorney's fees and expert witness fees.

If you have invested with former RJJ Pasadena Securities principal Michael James Gilhooly or with any representative or financial adviser whose violations of securities laws or industry rules, such as transacting investments in states where the rep wasn't registered or authorized to do so or making unsuitable recommendations or purchases, has proven harmful to your investments or interests, please call The Law Offices of Jonathan W. Evans & Associates at (800) 699-1881 for an investigation and consultation.
